With our busy work, home, and social lives, it can be a struggle to make sure our bodies get all the essential vitamins and minerals they need to function efficiently. When we fail, we can experience deficiencies that can lead to fatigue, hair loss, and even poor gut health.

To solve this dilemma, thousands of health and wellness companies offer dietary supplements, often in the form of pills and capsules that are uncomfortable to swallow. One brand that has developed an alternative solution is Karma, with its vitamin-enriched probiotic drinks designed to boost gut and immune health.

But are they as effective as their more traditional competitors? I decided to buy a Karma Wellness Water with probiotics to see what all the fuss is about, so read on to discover the pros and cons of this drink.

Karma Probiotic Water is a healthy beverage designed to promote good digestive health and immune function. It does this with the help of 2 billion probiotic cultures, friendly bacteria that eliminate harmful microbes and help to rebalance the gut microbiome.

Whereas the nutrients in many premixed probiotic drinks deteriorate over time, Karma’s one-of-a-kind push cap and hermetic seal provide protection for the water’s friendly bacteria and other active ingredients. This ensures that they remain fresh and effective for as long as possible.

Why I’ve Decided to Review Karma Probiotic Water

In the world of healthcare, probiotic supplements are well-known for their role in restoring good gut health, protecting against illness, and even treating yeast infections. The most common way to take probiotics is in capsule or pill form, but not everyone can swallow them.

I’m, therefore, always on the lookout for alternative ways that my patients can get their daily dose of probiotics, which is how I came across Karma Wellness Water. I liked the fact that the Karma Water drinks are low-calorie, have a push cap to preserve the active ingredients, and come in a variety of flavors.

I wanted to put this beverage to the test to see how it competes with standard probiotic supplements, so I ordered a package of the Berry Cherry flavor and explored the vitamin water more closely.

Is Karma Water Healthy?

Based on what’s included in each bottle of Karma Wellness Water, I’d say that it is a generally healthy drink.

The GanedenBC30 probiotic delivers 2 billion colony-forming units (CFUs), a measurement that indicates the number of friendly bacteria cells a product contains. This has more than 10 times the number of active probiotics found in probiotic foods like Greek yogurt.

It’s always important to take a closer look at ingredient labels, as many healthy bottled water brands fail to advertise all of their ingredients, particularly if they are considered to be unhealthy or slightly toxic.

Although the manufacturers claim that the water is preservative-free, I did discover that some flavors contain citric acid. This ingredient can act as a preservative in processed foods but isn’t thought to have any particularly harmful side effects and is generally considered to be safe

A small amount of cane sugar is used as a sweetener, but unless consumed in excess, it shouldn’t contribute to weight gain, heart disease, or type 2 diabetes.

Another ingredient that some flavors contain is maltodextrin, which is a highly processed yet FDA-safe food additive. However, along with inulin, this also acts as a prebiotic, which feeds the friendly bacteria within the supplement. This ensures that it is effective in keeping your gut healthy.

Is Karma Water good for weight loss?

With just 20 calories per bottle, Karma Wellness Water can easily be integrated into a weight loss diet. To lose weight, you’ll need to maintain a caloric deficit over an extended period, where you burn more calories than you consume through regular exercise and healthy eating.

Studies show that products containing probiotics may also be effective in lowering your body weight and body fat percentage. They do this in a number of ways, by preventing the absorption of some dietary fats, suppressing your appetite, and preventing dysbiosis, an imbalance of bacteria that weakens digestion and contributes to obesity.

Karma Wellness Water Flavors

One thing that stood out to me as soon as I began exploring Karma Water is the selection of flavors available. This makes the product unique compared with competitors, who often have just 1 or 2 options to choose from.

The Karma Water flavor range includes:

  • Berry Cherry – A combination of tart, juicy cherries and sweet mixed berries
  • Blueberry Lemonade – Made with blueberry and lemon extracts to provide a sweet and tangy fruit flavor
  • Strawberry Lemonade – Refreshing sweet strawberry and tart lemon
  • Watermelon Wild Berry – A unique mix of juicy, ripe watermelons and tangy wild berries
  • Pineapple Mango – Giving tropical paradise vibes, the exotic juicy mangoes complement the sweet and sour taste of fresh pineapple

Karma Probiotic Wellness Water Nutrition Facts

While many premixed vitamin drinks are packed full of sugary additives, I was impressed to see that Berry Cherry Karma Wellness Water is flavored naturally, made with minimal added sugars, and contains just 20 calories per bottle. The beverage also contains no fat and only 6 grams of carbohydrates per bottle.

Karma Wellness Water is packed with 100% of 6 essential vitamins, including vitamins A, C, D, E, B3, B5, B6, and B12. These are all essential for supporting a healthy immune system, which protects you from harmful toxins, supports faster wound healing, boosts energy levels, and also helps you maintain healthy skin, hair, and nails.

All flavors are vegan, gluten and lactose-free, and non-GMO (genetically modified organisms), meaning that I can recommend them to a wide range of patients with different needs.

Karma Wellness Water Benefits

While reviewing Karma Probiotic Water, I came across many great elements that make this beverage effective and user-friendly. See my thoughts below:

#1 Offers digestive support

Karma Wellness Water contains Bacillus coagulans GBI-30 6086® (also known as GanedenBC30), a type of Lactobacillus probiotic that has been shown to possess anti-inflammatory properties

This makes the drink a good treatment for my patients with inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis, as well as supporting a healthy immune system.

By repopulating the gut with healthy bacteria, the Lactobacillus strain is also effective for treating and preventing the symptoms of digestive discomfort, such as bloating, excess gas, stomach cramps, nausea, diarrhea, and constipation

#2 Helps to stay hydrated

As suggested by the name, the brand transforms pristine spring water into its signature Karma Water to help customers stay hydrated on the go. Plus, with many delicious flavors to choose from, you’re likely to drink Karma Wellness Water more often than plain water.

Drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated has many benefits, such as reducing bloating, keeping your skin healthy, and boosting your energy.

#3 Convenient to carry with you

Probiotic supplements often come in capsule form, which relies on you sometimes taking 2 or more each day. These types of probiotics aren’t suitable for some of my patients, who struggle to swallow such large capsules or find carrying them around an inconvenience.

What I like about Karma Wellness Water is that you can pop it into your bag and take it to work, college, or even to the gym with you. Simply peel off the protective seal, push the cap to infuse the fresh vitamins, shake, and you’ll have a tasty, probiotic-packed drink ready to go wherever you are

#4 Low-carb drink

I like the fact that this drink contains just 6 grams of carbohydrates per bottle, as it’s suitable for my patients who need to monitor their carb intake, such as those with type 2 diabetes or people starting the keto diet

Plus, this means the drink is low in sugar, and you can fill yourself up with healthy, complex carbs such as whole wheat bread, sweet potatoes, beans, and oatmeal.

Karma Probiotic Water Downsides

Despite the multitude of benefits, there are a few drawbacks to Karma Wellness Water that you should consider before making a purchase:

#1 Flavors might not appeal to everyone

While there are a few flavors to choose from, not everyone wants a burst of tangy fruitiness or sweet strawberry lemonade with their water. So, if you don’t like the taste, you’ll struggle to keep drinking the beverage, meaning you’re unlikely to experience the possible benefits of it.

#2 Possible minor side effects

Karma doesn’t report any side effects on their website. However, a sudden influx of friendly bacteria can take some getting used to, and as a result, you may experience some minor gastrointestinal symptoms like gas, bloating, nausea, and diarrhea. These effects should quickly pass as your body adjusts to the probiotics.

#3 Cost considerations

Unless purchasing them in-store, I was only able to buy a 12-pack of the waters online, which cost $24. This may be out of budget for some and can become quite costly if you’re drinking one per day.

I also couldn’t see any money-back guarantee advertised, which means you’ll be wasting $24 if you don’t enjoy your first bottle.

Karma Probiotic Wellness Water Reviews

While I’ve provided a comprehensive review of Karma Wellness Water from a medical perspective, the product has hundreds more reviews from people of all backgrounds, ages, and dietary needs. To get a better idea of whether this is the probiotic drink for you, read the ones I’ve selected here:

You can purchase a pack of 12 Karma Water bottles on their Amazon store for $24, working out to $2 a bottle.

Alternatively, Karma has recently introduced a customizable hydration kit, where you can build a 4-week supply of your favorite flavors delivered straight to your door for just $13.30 per sleeve or $1.90 for a serving.

However, if you subscribe for a recurring delivery every 2, 4, or 6 weeks, this is priced at just $11.97 for a sleeve or $1.71 per bottle. The only downside is that the kit comes with the bottle cap, and you’ll need to purchase a $14.99 reusable Karma bottle from the website.

How many Karma Waters should I drink a day?

The manufacturers suggest drinking between 1 and 3 bottles per day. Many of the vitamins that the beverage contains are water-soluble, so any excess amounts should be excreted by your body. However, vitamins A, E, and D aren’t water-soluble, and consuming too many can result in toxicity. You should, therefore, stick to the recommended daily dosage.

Does Karma Water make you poop?

Fiber supplements or beverages like Karma Wellness Water containing probiotics may increase the frequency of your bowel movements, particularly if you were previously suffering from constipation. However, there isn’t any specific evidence that they make you poop.

Does Karma Wellness Water have caffeine?

Karma Probiotic Water does not contain caffeine, making it suitable for those who are sensitive to this ingredient. However, the Passionfruit Green Tea and Pineapple Coconut flavors in one of their other lines do contain 50mg of natural caffeine.

How long is Karma Water good for after opening?

After activating the push cap, you should consume your bottle of Karma Wellness Water within 48 hours. The product contains no preservatives, meaning that the active ingredients, like probiotics and vitamins, may, therefore, lose their potency at the end of this timeframe.

How I Tested Karma Probiotic Water

To provide the most informative, accurate review possible, I looked at Karma Wellness Water from a variety of angles. Here are the 4 factors I tested the product against:

Quality 8/10

Quality refers to the ingredients, manufacturing processes, and packaging of a probiotic drink or supplement. The brand uses FDA-approved, non-GMO, scientifically-backed strains of bacteria and transforms pristine spring water to create its high-quality Karma Water. Most flavors are preservative-free, although some contain small amounts of sugar to enhance flavor.

Effectiveness 6/10

As I’ve touched on, there is much research to suggest that GanedenBC30 is effective for improving digestive health. The probiotic further increases this drink’s effectiveness, as it forms a protective spore that enables the bacteria to survive the harsh, acidic conditions of the digestive system.

However, I would like to see more probiotic strains included to offer a wider range of benefits. For example, Bifidobacteria produce short-chain fatty acids, which have several advantages for gut health.

Price 9/10

Costing just $2, or as little as $1.71 per bottle, there’s no denying that Karma Wellness Water is great value for money. The only drawback is that you’ll have to buy a 24-pack online, although you may be able to find single bottles at your local grocery or health store.

Brand reputation 9/10

Supplement brands should be reliable, as they’re creating products that can impact your health. When it comes to Karma, customer reviews on the products, packaging, and delivery are mainly positive. They’re also transparent about their products’ ingredients, another indication that the brand can be trusted.

A Word From Our RD

Consuming probiotic beverages is a convenient and tasty way of ensuring that you have plenty of good bacteria in your body. This has several health benefits, including maintaining a healthy gut, reducing the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, and improving your immunity.

However, probiotic drinks and supplements shouldn’t regularly replace the healthy foods you eat on a daily basis, as they may not contain all of the essential vitamins and minerals that your body needs. Try to eat a diet filled with healthy foods that naturally contain probiotics, such as spirulina, sour cream, aged cheese, yogurt, sauerkraut, pickles, tempeh, and kimchi.

If your digestive discomfort persists after taking probiotics for a while, this may indicate an underlying health problem. Consult your doctor for advice on the best course of treatment.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with Karma Probiotic Water. The patented GanedenBC30 probiotic strain that it includes is scientifically proven to be effective in improving digestion, while the range of vitamins helps to maintain all-round health, too. I’d give the drink bonus points for the delicious flavor selection on offer, along with its convenience.

However, it’s important that you don’t consume these beverages in excess, as this may not only lead to vitamin toxicity but could also cause you to become reliant on them as your primary source of vitamins. As a result, you may miss out on the essential nutrients you’d usually get from a healthy, balanced diet.

If you’re unsure of whether beverages like Karma Water are the best way for you to get your daily dose of probiotics, you should explore some of the other best probiotic supplements that are available on the market today.
