16 glasses (8oz) of water are equivalent to one gallon of water. 

According to health experts, an average healthy adult living in temperate areas should consume 8 standard glasses of water per day, half the 16 regular glasses that constitute a gallon.

If you do a lot of physical activity, are often dehydrated, or live in a dry climate, you should up your daily water intake. A gallon of water a day is highly advisable for those who exercise vigorously and sweat a lot than those who are more inactive.
