I took a deep dive into this customized food tracking app, assessing its value to my clients and its potential to support their journey to healthier eating.

It also offers a calorie tracker that details your nutrient intake for the day. This helps you better understand what you’re putting into your body and why a certain food is important.

Building a healthy relationship with food is believed to stop you from binge eating in the future. You will still lose stubborn weight while following a meal plan with cheat days now and then, so it may be worth trying Unimeal to develop a healthy mindset.

What’s more, if you don’t want a gym membership, the app also includes at-home workouts for people keen on losing weight. These exercise videos are quick and rarely require special equipment.

Who is Unimeal for?

According to the brand, Unimeal is for anyone committed to improving their health and fitness.

Whether starting a weight loss journey, looking to change your eating habits, or wanting to achieve certain fitness goals, you’ll get meal plans and workouts to help you achieve these goals.

You can enjoy using Unimeal if you have dietary preferences. Whether you enjoy a vegan, vegetarian, or Mediterranean diet, you can find customized meal plans that align with your food choices and nutritional needs.

Unimeal may also prove useful if you’re looking to learn about nutrition. The app offers informative content to empower you with valuable knowledge about nutrition, wellness, and healthy eating habits.

If you’re busy and lack time to plan your meals and prepare a shopping list, Unimeal might be a time-saving solution.

How to Get Started With Unimeal

Hearing about Unimeal’s customized meal plans and home workouts piqued my curiosity. I figured, why not dive in and see if it’s the real deal for those looking to change their eating habits and achieve their fitness or weight loss goals?

The quiz

I’d say starting with Unimeal was easier and more straightforward than most apps I have tried before. I didn’t require any special technical expertise.

After downloading Unimeal, the app prompted me to answer some quizzes, 22 questions in total, which included my goals, body type, activity level, and even my familiarity with intermittent fasting

The app even explained how intermittent fasting works and its benefits, which is a plus for beginner fasters.

Unimeal then gave me my results and showed me which areas to focus on to achieve my goals.

The quiz

The app also asked me to mark the vegetables, grains and bread, eggs, meat, seafood, dairy products, and fruits I would like to include in my plan.

After completing the quiz, Unimeal swiftly generated a personalized weight loss plan based on my responses. It included meal plans, fasting, workout plans, and calorie counting.

The meal plan included breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks, all with detailed recipes and nutritional information.

My first impressions of the app

I liked the neat and visually appealing layout. The app’s design is user-friendly and intuitive, encouraging for those unfamiliar with meal planning and fitness tracking apps.

The sign-up process is simple and takes little time and effort. I was effortlessly directed through the process, and the app allowed me to define my initial goals, such as weight loss goals and dietary preferences.

The comprehensive quizzes felt more like a conversation with a nutritionist than a digital questionnaire.

Creating a meal plan based on my responses was also a highlight. My dietary preferences and goals were translated into meal suggestions and workouts, making it a great tool for my clients who find identifying healthy foods and the most effective exercises challenging.

How Does Unimeal Work? 5 Key Features

While exploring the Unimeal app, I found these key features that promote the app’s effectiveness:

#1 Personalized meal plan

Unimeal’s personalized meal plan is the main selling point of this app. Upon completing the app’s interactive quiz, I received a personalized meal plan aligning with my dietary preferences, restrictions, and weight loss goals.

The plans are tailored to individual needs, making it easier to stick to your chosen diet and achieve your desired outcome. This can be particularly helpful if you struggle to plan your meals or find it challenging to stick to a weight loss diet.

The app allows users to select from various plans, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and Mediterranean diets. The app also offers recipes and the nutritional value of each food, making it simple to monitor calorie intake and macronutrient ratios.

The meal plans offered by Unimeal are nutrient-dense and include a variety of whole foods such as whole grains, lean proteins, fruits, and vegetables.

#2 Food diary and water tracker

Tracking daily food and water intake is important for effective weight management and overall health.

The app provides a convenient food diary, allowing individuals to easily log their meals and snacks. You can choose a food item from the app’s huge database or scan the barcode.

The app focuses on the significance of hydration and challenges users to drink water frequently during the day. I switched on notifications, and the app sent reminders throughout the day.

The app also offers a personalized shopping list. This ensures that you can efficiently gather the ingredients you need for a customized meal plan.

#3 Short workouts

I have quite a few clients who are not gym lovers. With that in mind, I found Unimeal helpful as it offers short at-home workouts that don’t need any special equipment. This is great for those who are new to exercise and don’t know where to start.

These exercises are illustrated by professional trainers. You can watch the gifs and perform the individual exercises, or click “Start Workout” and follow the directions in the video.

#4 Educational content

Unimeal provides various educational content to help users form healthy habits and achieve their weight loss goals. You can access many resources, including articles, tips, and advice on various topics relating to diet, healthy living, and weight loss.

The blog offers practical advice on adopting good eating habits and articles on specific health issues like asthma and arthritis.

#5 Support from a nutritionist

I greatly advocate consulting a professional before changing a diet. Unimeal goes the extra mile by providing users access to nutritionist support without additional cost. This feature sets the app apart, enabling users to seek expert advice and clarity on nutritional issues.

You can request replacements for an ingredient in your meal plan or a workout you don’t like. You can also inquire more about vitamins, alternative diets, and macronutrients.

What I Liked About Unimeal: 4 Main Benefits

This app offers several benefits that can promote one’s journey toward better nutrition and well-being. These were the highlights for me:

#1 It caters to a variety of diets

Unimeal customizes its services to meet a wide range of dietary preferences and needs. No matter what diet you follow, the app can give you meal plans that match your eating preferences and dietary requirements.

This is a plus since it allows people to stick to their diet plans, regardless of their food choices.

#2 It simplifies the shopping process

Unimeal caught my eye with its promise of a personalized shopping list, something I’ve always found invaluable in a world overflowing with dietary options.

What sets this feature apart is that it meticulously details every ingredient needed for the suggested meals. Instead of wandering the aisles of the grocery store wondering what to pick up or constantly worrying about forgetting a crucial ingredient, Unimeal simplifies the process.

#3 It promotes healthy weight loss

Unimeal empowers users with the knowledge they need to make wise decisions about their diets and exercise routines through tailored foods, calorie tracking, and at-home workouts.

The meal plans are created based on specific dietary requirements and preferences, making meeting your weight loss goals easier. The workouts are also personalized to your fitness levels and objectives.

Unimeal also provides a weight tracker to help users track their progress. The app offers information on how to lose weight, including the benefits of maintaining a balanced diet and regular exercise. You can use the tracker to set goals‌ and monitor progress.

#4 You can learn a lot about nutrition

Unimeal’s educational blog covers a range of topics related to nutrition, where you get a valuable opportunity to learn more about making healthier lifestyle choices.

I deeply discourage clients from getting information about their diet and nutrition from random, unverified sources. They may get advice that lacks scientific validity or individualization.

I was happy that Unimeal also allows you to speak directly with nutritionists to get more information about the food on your menus. You can also ask them about how certain meals, food allergies, and potential substitutions will affect your progress.

Downsides of Unimeal

While Unimeal offers numerous benefits, it has some drawbacks and potential areas for improvement:

#1 It’s not possible to log activities

While Unimeal excels at providing personalized food plans and dietary options, it doesn’t offer an exercise tracking feature. This can be a drawback if you’re committed to improving your diet and tracking your physical activity.

However, it’s important to understand that Unimeal mainly focuses on dietary aspects and does not claim to be a comprehensive fitness tracking app.

You can still add separate fitness apps, such as Joggo or MyFitnessPal, to your Unimeal experience to help track your activities.

#2 Food suggestions may be too expensive

While the food suggestions provided by Unimeal are nutritious and well-balanced, some ingredients are expensive. This can be frustrating if you’re on a budget.

However, you can swap ingredients you can’t afford or ask the nutritionists to modify your meal plan. You can also consider substituting ingredients, using local and seasonal produce, or changing recipes.

#3 Refund policy is complex

For a refund request from Unimeal, you must contact them through a specific email address within 30 days after your purchase and before ending your subscription.

You must have also followed the plan for 14 consecutive days within the first 30 days of your purchase and provide screen videos or screenshots showing that you followed their meal plan.

You might not get the subscription money back if you cannot follow this policy.

Some users have complained about the app auto-renewing their subscriptions. While this did not happen to me, ending your subscriptions as early as possible is important to avoid unexpected charges.

How Much Does Unimeal Cost?

Unimeal costs around $20 monthly, depending on how long you want to use the app. Opting for the 6-month plan might be cheaper, but always evaluate what you’re paying for before committing to a subscription.

The prices are customized to your dietary requirements and preferences and may vary depending on the subscription length.

What Do Other Users Think About Unimeal?

Looking at Unimeal reviews, some have praised its usefulness, while others have given negative reviews, complaining about its subscription and refund policy.

Those who praised Unimeal appreciated the convenience of having personalized food plans provided right when they needed them. They claim to have experienced major weight loss and improved overall health.

There has, however, also been more than one negative Unimeal review, with some users experiencing trouble canceling their subscriptions and unauthorized charges to their credit cards. Some clients have also complained about the lack of diet options and the high cost of food.

How I Evaluated Unimeal

Testing apps beforehand is very important for determining their effectiveness. Focusing on the main features, I could see how Unimeal may or may not suit weight loss management.

In this Unimeal review, I evaluated the app based on its quality, effectiveness in driving results, the value I received compared to its price, and the brand’s reputation.

Quality 9/10

The quality of this application exceeds any other factors. This is because Unimeal has a simple design that makes it easy for people to navigate the features.

A high-quality app will contain unique components that encourage users to explore and find more educational information.

Effectiveness 8/10

From the reviews of people who have used the app for some time, the app seems to be effective for weight loss. The recipes and at-home workout videos can specifically cater to personal goals.

To bump up this score, Unimeal could’ve included different diets people might follow on their journey. I couldn’t find the ketogenic diet or the one for people with health issues, such as the diabetes diet.

Price 7/10

Unimeal costs around $20 a month, but this price can increase depending on your subscription. While this isn’t too expensive, other apps suit tight budgets. Even though the price point decreases the score, Unimeal is still good for building a healthy diet.

Brand reputation 8/10

Looking at the About Us page on Unimeal’s website, they are keen on promoting “healthy eating” comfortably and easily. The dedicated team wants to share their weight loss knowledge, including nutrient-dense foods for beginners and pros.

I checked Unimeal’s official site to determine its mission and personality. If a high-quality product is made by a brand that doesn’t care, it’s not worth buying. That’s why I check a brand’s reputation to understand its focus on attracting customers.

A Word From Our RD

While there are many weight loss apps to help you lose weight, you can also try natural methods that are proven to work. Consider incorporating a high-protein diet‌ into your routine. Protein can make you feel more satiated and decrease your appetite.

Ensure you also drink a lot of water, especially before meals. Staying hydrated can reduce your calorie intake, particularly if you’re middle-aged or older.

Cardio exercises like jogging, running, cycling, power walking, or hiking are great ways to lose weight and enhance physical and emotional well-being.

Most quick routine exercises promote calorie burning at home, but you can go outside for a long-distance run or a walk to avoid being cooped up in the house.

Always consult your doctor before trying any weight loss app if you have health conditions or allergies. Certain app reviews might not be reliable, so don’t count on those to determine if the meals are safe for your short- and long-term health.

Conclusion: Is Unimeal Worth a Try?

My final verdict of Unimeal review: It is worth a try if it matches your diet preferences and lifestyle.

What I like most about Unimeal is that it’s a user-friendly app that is great for building your personalized meal plan. Plus, the at-home exercise videos, healthy recipes, and online community forums can motivate and help you lose weight.

While it’s undeniable that the long-term cost of Unimeal’s subscription may be considered relatively high, and the absence of activity tracking can be seen as a setback, I believe it’s still worth trying the app for just a few weeks.

If Unimeal doesn’t meet your criteria or match what you’re looking for in a diet, you may try other weight management apps, such as Perfect Body or DoFasting, to get more features and guidance.
