Is Sunflower Oil Keto-Friendly?

Sunflower oil is only suitable for those who follow a lazy keto diet. This means you’re eating low-carb products that aren’t particularly healthy. If you want to lose stubborn weight, avoid highly refined cooking oils and stick with olive oil, avocado oil, or sesame oil.

Lazy Keto

  • There are 0g of net carbs per 100g of sunflower oil. Although this sounds great for the ketogenic diet, it won’t benefit your long-term health. People who follow the lazy keto meal plan might not see consistent weight loss results.
  • A less restrictive diet means you don’t count your daily macros when planning meals. To lose weight, monitoring how much protein, fiber, sugar, fats, calories, and carbs you eat can ensure balanced meals throughout the week.

High in Fats

  • Sunflower oil contains 100g of fats. Those fats may be highly saturated, which isn’t good for people wanting to lose weight. Not getting enough good fat can cause headaches, chronic fatigue, muscle pain, and constipation.
  • On the ketogenic diet, consider eating foods like olives, salmon, avocado, eggs, plain yogurt, almonds, and cottage cheese. These contain high amounts of unsaturated fat – fat that doesn’t contribute to fat cell production.

Low in Carbs

  • One great thing about sunflower oil is that it doesn’t contain carbs. Your body can still burn fat without turning to glycogen stores. But, if you really want to lose weight, eat more low-carb vegetables and fruits to keep everything balanced.
  • Some examples include kale, lettuce, acai berries, asparagus, and eggplant

Highly Refined

  • Sunflower oil is a highly refined product that’s made with chemicals. Certain brands use more preservatives to keep oils thick for cooking. However, these unnatural substances will only increase the risk of heart disease and weight gain.
