Is Soybean Oil Keto-Friendly?

Soybean oil is part of the lazy keto diet. This means you’re only focused on eating minimal carbs rather than eating nutrient-dense foods. Refined oils like soybean are usually discouraged on the keto diet because they are unhealthy for your body.

  • There are 0 grams of net carbs per 100 grams of soybean oil
  • You can have this oil on the keto diet, but that doesn’t mean it’s healthy. 
  • Lazy keto means you’re limiting carbohydrates to 10% of your daily calories without counting the calories or eating low-sugar foods.

  • Instead, opt for more keto-friendly oils like olive oil or sesame oil. Some people go for MCT oil if they want to get more fats on the keto diet. 

High in Fats 

  • Soybean oil contains 100 grams of fats in a 100-gram serving. 
  • Most of this fat is saturated and bad for your health. Saturated fat increases the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure. 
  • To stay healthy, consume more high-fat foods like olives, avocado, eggs, cottage cheese, salmon, and plain yogurt
  • It’s recommended that people get 70–80% of fat from their daily calorie intake. 
  • Unsaturated fats are best for the keto diet. They usually contain omega-3 fatty acids that reduce cholesterol levels and ease gut inflammation.

Low in Carbs 

  • Soybean oil, unlike many other soy products like soybean sprouts, is low in net carbohydrates. This is suitable for the lazy keto diet, but it is still high in unsaturated fats and calories. 
  • Your body may stay in ketosis for a short amount of time. Just remember that exceeding your calorie intake won’t help with weight loss. To lose stubborn fat, eat nutrient-dense foods and avoid refined oils like soybean.
