Are Rice Noodles Keto-Friendly?

No, rice noodles are not keto-friendly. They are very high in net carbohydrates and very low in fats. Although natural and minimally processed, they do not meet the keto criteria.

Not Keto-Friendly

  • Rice noodles are high in carbs, with 78.6g of net carbs per 100g serving
  • A typical keto diet allows only 20–50g of net carbs per day.
  • For this reason, rice noodles and other noodles, such as ramen ones, are immediately unsuitable for the ketogenic diet.
  • The ketogenic diet is all about carb restriction. If you do not restrict your carbohydrate consumption, your body cannot enter ketosis – the primary goal of practicing keto.
  • When you get into ketosis, your body begins to burn through fat as a fuel source. Essentially, it switches your body into a fat-burning mode so you can lose stubborn body fat and reach your dream body weight.
  • High-carb foods are off-limits if you want to benefit from the ketogenic diet.

Low in Fats

  • Fat is an essential macronutrient on keto. Your body needs fats for energy as it transitions to burning fat instead of carbs for fuel.
  • Without enough fat on keto, you will feel hungry and fatigued. You might be more inclined to binge eat or give in to sugar cravings as you try to battle hunger pangs.
  • Aside from the high carb count, rice noodles will not benefit your keto weight loss journey because they only have 0.56g of fats.
  • A keto dieter must focus on foods high in fats and low in carbs.

Natural

  • Rice noodles are a natural food item that goes through minimal processing.
  • Natural whole foods are vital for supping your health while following the keto diet.
  • You should make natural foods a staple of your diet and cut down on highly processed foods with artificial ingredients and added sugar.
