Is Red Wine Keto?
No, red wine is not keto. This is mainly due to the high amount of carbohydrates it contains per serving. While it is rich in anti-oxidants and other heart-healthy nutrients, red wine is not a great choice if you’re on keto.
Not Keto-Friendly
- Wine and other processed alcoholic drinks, such as beer, contain carbohydrates.
- If you’re on keto, you have to stay away from any food or drinks that contain carbs so that you can remain in a state of ketosis.
- Consuming red wine will not stop ketosis. However, it will slow it down. This is because your liver will process the alcohol before it processes body fat.
High in Carbs
- The recommended daily carbohydrate limit is between 30–50 g per day. Of course, being on keto, it is best to completely avoid consuming carbs.
