Is Pomegranate Keto-Friendly?

Pomegranate is not keto-friendly. The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, low-carb diet. 

Pomegranate has the opposite requirements, as it is low in fats and high in net carbs. Eating a small portion of pomegranates could kick you out of ketosis. 

Not Keto-Friendly

  • The pomegranate fruit is not a good match for the keto diet. You should avoid eating it if you want to remain in the fat-burning state of ketosis. 
  • Fruit is an essential staple of any diet. When practicing the keto diet, stick to keto-friendly fruits that will not hinder your weight loss efforts. 
  • For example, you can safely eat olives. You can enjoy blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, starfruit, and oranges in controlled amounts. 

Natural and Healthy

  • Pomegranate is a whole food and a highly-nutritious fruit. It is rich in antioxidants and flavonoids that can protect your body’s cells from free radical damage. 
  • You can benefit from eating pomegranates ordinarily, but not on keto. Even a small amount of pomegranate could potentially end ketosis. 

Low in Fats

  • High-fat, low-carb is the motto for the keto diet. 
  • A clean keto diet features lots of healthy fats that provide your body with fuel while supporting your general health. 
  • If you eat low-fat foods on keto, you must substitute them with other fat sources to meet your daily requirements. 
  • Pomegranate is low in fats, but because it is high in carbs, it is no good to substitute pomegranate as you should avoid it entirely. 

High in Carbs

  • 100 grams of raw pomegranate has 14.7 grams of net carbs. That’s a lot of carbs for less than half of a fruit. 
  • A standard keto diet reduces daily carb consumption to around 20–30 grams per day. So, a small serving of pomegranate will take up almost half of your budget.
