Is Peanut Oil Keto-Friendly?

Peanut oil is both low in net carbs and high in fats; however, it is a highly refined oil that should not be consumed on a clean keto diet. It may be consumed if you are following a dirty/lazy keto diet.

Lazy Keto

  • The lazy keto diet requires you to limit your daily carbs to around 10% of your daily intake. Still, it does not require you to track protein or fat intake. You may also consume processed and refined foods.
  • This type of keto diet differs from a clean keto diet because the clean version is much stricter. On the clean keto diet, you are expected to eat whole, healthy, and unrefined foods to keep additives, preservatives, and refined oils to a minimum.
  • Peanut oil is a highly refined oil. Though it has a negligible net carb value and a high fat content, it is not considered a keto-friendly oil and should only be consumed on a lazy keto diet in moderation.

High in Fats

  • Peanut oil is high in fat, with 93.4g per 100g.
  • On the keto diet, you need to increase your fat intake while reducing your carbohydrate consumption. This is to maintain the metabolic state of ketosis.
  • In this state, the body burns stored body fat for fuel. Eating more fat than usual can sustain this state.
  • You should supplement your diet with lots of high-fat keto foods, like butter, black olives, and coconut.

Highly Refined

  • On the keto diet, it is best to avoid refined foods. Refined oil, like peanut oil, can increase inflammation in the body, affecting your overall health.
  • Instead of consuming refined oils, opt for healthy oils and fats that are packed full of omega-3s and unsaturated fats.
