Is Oatmeal Keto?

Oatmeal is very high in carbohydrates, which means it isn’t keto-friendly. You should find low-carb oatmeal alternatives for your ketogenic diet or cut this food out completely.

Not Keto-Friendly

  • You must avoid oatmeal on the keto diet as it contains high levels of carbohydrates. A 100g serving of oatmeal contains 50.8g of net carbs.
  • Oatmeal will exceed your daily intake of carbohydrates. The permitted amount is usually 20 grams on a keto diet, so oatmeal will go over that in just one portion.
  • Eating this highly-carbonated food can ruin your metabolic state of ketosis. This will dramatically slow down your weight loss progress.
  • The calories might be low (246kcal per 100g), but the high carbs can outweigh this low-calorie food. People following a keto diet should still avoid this.
  • Foods with low calories are still great for weight loss, but they need to have a low carbonated content. Your body requires a lack of glucose to start burning fat.

Natural Product but Too High in Carbs

  • Oatmeal is a natural product that comes from the seeds of Avena Sativa plants. Oats are naturally processed through preparation, but they’re still not suitable for ketogenic diets.
  • Eating oatmeal on keto is still an option, you just have to find low-carb recipes that don’t contain oats. Chia seeds, flax seeds, and hemp seeds can mimic the texture and taste of oats once you mix them up and include them with other keto-friendly options.
  • Natural products are often seen as healthy weight loss foods, but if they contain high-carbonated content, they will stop your body from turning fat into fuel.
