Is Honeydew Keto-Friendly?

Honeydew should be avoided on the keto diet. It doesn’t meet the macros requirements because it is high in net carbs and low in healthy fats. You should choose other fruits better suited to the keto diet to ensure weight loss success.

Avoid

  • Honeydew has too many net carbs for you to enjoy eating it freely on keto. You should avoid eating this fruit to remain in ketosis and reap its perks.
  • A moderate serving of honeydew could disrupt ketone production and prevent your body from burning fat.
  • Instead of eating honeydew on a keto diet, you can choose other low-carb fruits such as raspberries, blackberries, and olives.

High in Net Carbs

  • To remain in ketosis, you must limit your daily net carb consumption to under 50g.
  • If your intake of carbs is too high, your body will revert to burning carbs for fuel. That means you’re no longer burning through your stubborn fat stores.
  • Honeydew is high in net carbs. It contains 8.29g per 100g serving. Consuming this amount of net carbs in one serving will quickly use up your daily carb allowance.

Low in Healthy Fats

  • In ketosis, your body burns fat for fuel, leading to fat loss. It also burns dietary fat for fuel, so you must keep a steady intake of good fats for keto
  • At least 70% of macros on a keto diet should come from fats. Therefore, foods with plenty of healthful fats are essential.
  • Honeydew is very low in fats, with less than a gram per 100g serving. You cannot meet the keto macros requirements with low-fat foods.

Natural

  • We’re not criticizing honeydew. It is a whole natural food that is minimally processed. It does not contain harmful ingredients like food additives and artificial sweeteners.
  • Honeydew contains vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C and vitamin A, which both have antioxidant effects.
  • It is made up primarily of water and contains essential electrolytes like potassium, magnesium, sodium, and calcium.
  • Outside of keto, you can enjoy the many perks of honeydew. If you want to continue your keto journey, opt for keto-friendly fruits with similar nutrients and without a hefty carb count.
