Are Dried Figs Keto-Friendly?

Dried figs are not keto-friendly because they are high in carbs and sugars and low in fats. Although they are rich in essential minerals such as magnesium, iron, potassium, and calcium, they are also high in calories. You should avoid figs completely while on keto.

Not Keto-Friendly

  • A keto diet encourages you to consume fewer than 20–30g of carbs per day.
  • With one serving (40g) of dried figs, you are going to consume a whopping 26 grams of carbs, so it is safe to say that this dried fruit is not keto-friendly.
  • An alternative to dried figs is coconut meat

Too Many Carbs

  • Dried figs are very high in carbs and thus should be avoided on keto. 100g of it can provide you with 54.1g of net carbs. Eating dried figs can cause you to quickly exceed your daily carbohydrate limit because the ketogenic diet calls for a tight restriction on carbohydrates.
  • It’s important to be mindful of your carb intake on the keto diet.
  • Some fruits are ideal for keto. For example, you could swap dried figs for limited quantities of strawberries, as they are a bit low in net carbs.

Low in Fats

  • Dried figs are low in fats, which contrasts with the macronutrient requirement of a ketogenic diet. With only 0.9g, there is very little fat in dried figs.
  • Healthy fats should make up 70% of your daily caloric intake. Choose fruits that are high in fat and low in carbohydrates.
  • Olives include a massive 15.3g of lipids and just 3.84g of net carbs, making them the ideal fruit for keto.

Natural and Healthy

  • Dried figs are natural fruits rich in high amounts of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. You can also incorporate them into many dishes.
  • They can help regulate blood sugar, manage weight, improve your heart’s health, lower cholesterol, and help strengthen your bones.

However, avoid dried figs to stay in ketosis and reap the health benefits of the keto diet.
