Are Cranberries Keto?

Cranberries are not keto-friendly due to their high-carb content. You want to avoid this fruit if you wish to lose enough weight and remain in ketosis. There are other types of berries to eat, like strawberries and raspberries, that will encourage your body to burn fat.

Better to Avoid

  • There are 8.4g of net carbs per 100g serving of cranberries. This might be too much for your ketogenic diet, so it’s worth avoiding these and eating another fruit. 
  • Cranberries don’t have many healthy fats that can fill you up between meals.
  • As fats are very important when on keto, try eating avocado or nuts
  • People usually gravitate toward cranberries due to the minimal calories, but this doesn’t mean it’s good for a keto diet. Carbs are the main nutrient that will disrupt your progress.
  • A 100g portion of cranberries also has 4.27g of sugar – too much for a strict diet. Consume other fruits like blackberries and blueberries that don’t contain much sugar.

  • Eating too many carbohydrates can lead to weight gain or a slow fat-burning process in your body. Cranberries have 12g of carbs, making them unsuitable for the ketogenic diet. 
  • Increasing your carb intake might also lead to health problems like heart disease or type 2 diabetes. You want to avoid these foods when changing your eating habits.
  • Cranberries may seem like a healthy fruit, but consuming lots of them can go over your recommended carb intake of 30–50g a day. Staying under this amount ensures ketosis can still happen when burning those unwanted pounds.

  • The high-carb content in cranberries may push your body out of ketosis. Once the body has more glucose, it will burn that for energy instead of fat. 
  • Losing weight requires a strict limitation of carbohydrates. A keto diet is all about producing more ketones that eliminate stubborn fat sources in your body.
  • Some great alternatives to cranberries are peaches, strawberries, blackberries, watermelon, and tomatoes. You can make a smoothie with these fruits or add them to keto-friendly dessert options.
  • However, most of these options are moderately high in carbs; therefore, always count your macros.
