Is Cornmeal Keto-Friendly?

No, cornmeal is not keto-friendly due to the high number of carbs. You should avoid this food completely when maintaining the ketosis state. Instead, opt for food products like almond flour, coconut flour, and almond meal to keep losing stubborn weight.

Not Keto-Friendly

  • There are 75.5 grams of net carbohydrates per 100 grams of cornmeal. This is too much for the ketogenic diet, meaning that it can stop your body from burning fat. Avoid using cornmeal in your meals, and stick to other low-carb alternatives.
  • Cornmeal is also high in calories and saturated fats. These two factors may contribute to weight gain and future heart disease. For people wanting to lose weight during ketosis, use almond-based products with minimal carbs.

High in Carbs

  • Consuming too many carbs will not benefit your weight loss progress. Staying in ketosis means you have to eat low-carb foods every day. Replace cornmeal with healthy green vegetables like spinach, kale, eggplant, celery, and lettuce
  • Aim to eat below 30 grams of carbs a day to maintain the ketosis state.

Low in Fats

  • Cornmeal contains 1.75 grams of fat, which isn’t enough to fuel the body. Not getting adequate amounts of this nutrient may cause headaches, fatigue, and weak muscles. You need to get at least 70% of your daily calories from fat.
  • Some great high-fat foods to eat include black olives, avocado, coconut, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, salmon, seed butter, and whole eggs

Without Additives

  • Cornmeal may not have additives, but it is still processed food. You should avoid eating processed foods when losing weight. This is because they contain saturated fats and added sugars – two ingredients that promote weight gain.
