Is Cornbread Keto-Friendly?

Cornbread is not keto-friendly due to the high number of carbs. You should avoid this food completely to maintain the ketosis state. People usually make a low-carb version using almond flour, baking powder, sugar-free powdered sugar, and whole eggs.

Not Keto-Friendly

  • There are 62.4 grams of net carbs per 100 grams of cornbread. Foods containing this amount won’t find a place on the ketogenic diet. To maintain ketosis, you have to deprive your body of carbs when encouraging it to burn stubborn fat.
  • Cornbread also has lots of sugars that could stop you from losing weight. Sugary foods may contribute to weight gain or even slow down ketosis. This is because sugar turns into glucose – an energy source your body turns to instead of fat.

High in Carbs

  • Eating high-carb foods will only ruin your long-term progress. Cornbread has over 70 grams of carbohydrates in a 100-gram serving. It’s recommended that people stay under 30 grams of total carbs a day to maintain ketosis.
  • Aim to use other ingredients instead of cornmeal. These might be almond flour, coconut flour, and flaxseed. Just make sure to use these substitutes in moderation and always monitor how much you’re consuming every day.

Low in Fats

  • There are only 4.2 grams of fat in a serving of cornbread. Your body needs plenty of healthy fats to sustain high energy levels. Not getting enough could lead to headaches, fatigue, muscle cramps, poor concentration, and constipation.
  • You should get 70% of fat from your daily calorie intake. Consider eating other food like whole eggs, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, herring, and olive oil

May Contain Added Sugars

  • Added sugars are one of the main causes of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, weight gain, and obesity. Cornbread may contain some dangerous sugars, so it’s better to avoid this food completely when improving your long-term health.
