Are Chia Seeds Keto?

Yes, chia seeds are keto-friendly.

Chia seeds actually contain macronutrient ratios of protein and fats that fit into keto if they are eaten in limited amounts that won’t push your body out of ketosis.

Because they are not high in sugar, some chia seeds can be eaten during keto.

The protein, fiber, and complex minerals included in chia seeds are also very good for you, so adding chia seeds to your ketogenic diet is possible if eaten sparingly.

Keto if Limited

  • Chia seeds are a great source of protein and fiber and will not kick you out of ketosis if you only eat them sparingly – around 1 or 2 ounces per day should be fine.
  • However, if chia seeds make up too much of your daily consumption, the carbohydrate count will affect your diet.
  • Because ketosis is the stage where your body burns the most fat instead of sugar, you shouldn’t eat high-carbohydrate foods that alter this state.
  • So, only eating limited amounts of chia seeds will not break a low-carb keto diet, but moderation is key.

Whole Food

  • Chia seeds are a very natural source of nutrients and are generally a minimally processed food, making them quite healthy.
  • As a whole food, chia seeds are high in fiber and a superfood powerhouse for many dieters and foodies alike.
  • People who consume chia seeds even sparingly get a variety of antioxidants, omega-3s, and vitamins like B1, B2, and B3 for better energy.
