Are Cashews Keto?

Although high in fats, cashews are unsuitable for the keto diet as they are too high in net carbs. You should refrain from eating this food product if you want to facilitate ketosis.

Not Keto

  • Cashews must be avoided on the keto diet as they have too many carbs. A 100g serving contains 26.9g of net carbs.
  • A small serving of cashew nuts can prevent or interrupt the metabolic state of ketosis.
  • A conventional keto diet permits up to 50 grams of carbs per day to facilitate ketosis. Eating cashews will quickly exceed your carb budget for the day.
  • Despite the high-fat content of cashews (43.8g per 100g), the carb count makes them ill-suited for keto.
  • Fat intake is only beneficial on keto when you restrict your carbohydrate intake. The human body needs to run out of glucose before it begins to burn fat for fuel.

Natural but Too High in Carbs

  • Cashews are a natural food product sourced from the tropical cashew tree. They are minimally processed, but they have too many carbs for a person practicing the keto diet.
  • If you want to eat nuts on keto, there are several others that are keto-friendly.
  • Good examples include pecans, brazil nuts, and macadamia nuts because they have a smaller amount of net carbs.
