Is Cantaloupe Keto-Friendly?

Cantaloupe is not keto-friendly. One serving size of cantaloupe has too many net carbs for you to enjoy on keto freely.

Not Keto

  • To maintain ketosis, you need to limit your daily net carb consumption between 20–30g.
  • However, cantaloupe is high in net carbs (8.16g per 100g), which will undoubtedly kick you out of ketosis.
  • Instead of eating cantaloupe on a keto diet, you can substitute it with low-carb fruits such as avocados, blackberries, and olives.

Low in Fat

  • During ketosis, your body burns fat as fuel for energy leading to fat loss.
  • Ideally, a keto diet should be high in fat and low in carbs. 70% of the macros from a keto diet should come from fats, 20–25% from proteins, and the remaining 5–10% from carbs.
  • However, cantaloupe is high in carbs and low in fat which is the opposite of what you need on a keto diet.
  • It would be best to substitute cantaloupe with foods rich in healthy fats such as salmon, ghee, and avocado.

Clean Label

  • One of the perks of cantaloupe is that it is minimally processed. It does not contain harmful ingredients such as additives, highly processed oils, and sweeteners.
  • It is rich in vitamins A and C. Vitamin A helps keep your skin healthy and boosts your immune system, whereas vitamin C is a good antioxidant that protects your cells from damage.
  • It is also rich in magnesium, choline, manganese, and phosphorus. These minerals balance the electrolytes in your body.
  • Despite all these perks, cantaloupe is not suitable for you on keto as it is high in net carbs. You should check the macros and ingredients in your foods to achieve the best results on keto.
