Is Cabbage Keto-Friendly?

Cabbage is keto-friendly if limited.

Moderately Keto

  • Ideally, you should limit your daily carb consumption between 20g to 30g on a keto diet to maintain ketosis.
  • Cabbage, however, contains 5.8g of carbs per 100g serving. This is a fair amount of carbs, and you need to be mindful of the serving sizes not to exceed your daily carb allowance.
  • You should monitor the ingredients and macros in your foods to stay within your carb budget.

Low in Fats

  • The macros in a ketogenic diet include 70% fats, 20–25% protein, and 5–10% carbs. During ketosis, your body uses fats for fuel instead of carbs.
  • Cabbage is, however, low in fats, and you need to supplement cabbage with foods that are rich in healthy fats.
  • Some rich sources of healthy fats are extra virgin oil, nut butter, and MCT oil.

Whole Food

  • Cabbage is a whole food packed with nutrients, high in fiber and moderate carbs. Cabbage is also minimally processed and does not contain harmful non-keto ingredients such as highly processed oils, additives, and artificial sweeteners.
  • Helps combat inflammation and lowers blood pressure. The high fiber content also helps alleviate constipation and improves digestion.
  • This vegetable is also a rich source of vitamin K, a fat-soluble vitamin better absorbed when you consume healthy fats. Vitamin K helps bone health, prevents blood clotting, and boosts metabolic functions.
  • Whole foods are also known to lower risks of contracting diseases such as type 2 diabetes and cancer and improve heart health by reducing cholesterol levels.
