Are Beets Keto?

Due to the high-carb content in beets, this product is not keto-friendly and should be avoided on your diet. You should eat other vegetables, like zucchini and spinach, when trying to lose weight. The fewer carbs you eat, the more likely you’ll see physical results.

Avoid

  • Beets contain 6.76g of net carbs in a 100g serving. This portion will take up too much of your carb intake on the ketogenic diet, so it’s best to avoid it completely.
  • Eating a very small amount of beets could maintain a good keto diet, but it’s worth eating other foods that don’t take up so much space in your daily carb allowance.
  • You should only consume around 20 to 50 grams of carbs per day to stay in ketosis. Exceeding this amount means your body won’t burn fat for energy.
  • Even though beets have 43 calories per 100g, this won’t help you lose weight. The carb content can throw your body out of the ketosis stage.

Low in Fats

  • Beets only have 0.17g of fats per serving, which isn’t enough to fuel your body. On the keto diet, you need plenty of healthy fats to stay energized during physical activity.
  • If you don’t get enough fats, your body will start feeling weak. This can lead to side effects like headaches, dizziness, tiredness, poor sleep, and constipation.
  • Healthy fats include avocados, salmon, coconut, and olives. You can easily incorporate these foods into your ketogenic meals, like salads and mid-day snacks.

Natural but High in Carbs

  • Beets derive from the roots of beetroot plants and are naturally packed with nutrients, antioxidants, fiber, and minerals.
  • Even though this vegetable is healthy, it doesn’t have a place on the keto diet due to its high-carb content. Pickled beets are also not a good option if you are on a keto diet.
  • You can get your source of vitamins from supplements or other keto foods. Just make sure those foods don’t contain loads of carbohydrates.
  • Other keto-friendly alternatives to beets are cabbage, tomatoes, celery root, and radish. Simply mix these foods with salads, and your body will be eager to burn fat.
