Are Bananas Keto?

Bananas are not keto-friendly food because they have too many net carbs. You should stick to keto-friendly fruits to ensure you reach and maintain ketosis while following the keto diet.

Not Keto

  • Although bananas are highly nutritious, they are not suitable for the keto diet because they are high in net carbs.
  • One banana can kick you out of ketosis.
  • If you want to facilitate nutritional ketosis, you need to follow the keto diet carefully to ensure you don’t kick yourself out of ketosis and miss out on the keto perks.
  • Great fruits on keto are blackberries, strawberries, peaches, cantaloupe, and plums.

Low in Fats

  • With the keto diet, your ideal foods are low in carbs and high in healthy fats. Bananas provide the opposite, as they are high in carbs and low in fats.
  • Macronutrients are essential for keto. The keto diet typically requires participants to take 70–80% of total daily calories from fats.
  • To maintain and optimize overall health, you should aim to take your fats from healthy fat sources.

Natural But Too High in Carbs

  • The primary problem with bananas is that they are high in carbs, with 22.8g of total carbs and 20.2g of net carbs in a 100g serving.
  • The number of carbs is too high to facilitate ketosis. Even a small portion of a banana could potentially kick you out of ketosis.
  • You must limit your carb consumption to under 50g per day.
  • The macros ratio for carbs on a typical keto diet is 5–10% of total daily calories.
  • Swap banana with avocado for the other perfect keto fruits mentioned above.
