Is Almond Butter Keto-Friendly?

Unfortunately, almond butter is not keto-friendly as it is too high in net carbs and can easily kick you out of ketosis even in a small serving size.

Not Keto

  • A keto diet is high in fat and low in carbs. However, almond butter is too high in net carbs (18.8g per 100g serving), which will inhibit you from reaching ketosis. It would help if you looked for other alternative butter brands low in carbs.
  • To stay in ketosis, you need to limit your daily carb intake from 20g to 30g a day. You need to track the macros in your food to remain within the allowable limits on keto.

Not a Good Source of Fat

  • While on ketosis, your body burns fat instead of glucose. You need to limit your daily carb consumption within allowable limits for your body to use fats as energy.
  • However, though almond butter has a high-fat content, it is not an ideal fat source as it is too high in net carbs.
  • It would be best to get fats from other sources that are low in net carbs. Examples include salmon, avocado, and ghee.

Might Contain Highly Refined Oils and Sugar

  • Almond butter might contain harmful non-keto ingredients such as highly refined oils and sugar.
  • Making highly refined oils uses heat and chemicals that strip away essential nutrients from almond butter and replace them with harmful chemicals.
  • The sugars in almond butter will also increase your blood sugar levels and inhibit you from reaching ketosis.
  • As you can see, almond butter is not suitable for you on keto as it is too high in net carbs. You need to track the ingredients and macros in your food for the best results on keto.
