There are plenty of dietary options that claim to target fat on your body, lemon coffee being one of them. Can this drink burn stubborn belly fat? What does it do for your overall health? We explain how lemon coffee works and if this is suitable for losing weight.

Coffee and lemon for weight loss

You might be wondering what diet works best for targeting fat.

Eating healthy foods, restricting calories, and consuming full meals are all great weight loss methods. But what exactly should you consume to lose weight?

The coffee and lemon drink isn’t a well-known combination, but it could really progress your diet. It only requires two simple ingredients that you’ll most likely have at home.

How can this drink aid your weight loss journey?

In this article, you’ll learn if drinking coffee and lemon is good for weight loss.

Coffee and Lemon for Weight Loss – Should You Try It?

You can try the lemon and coffee drink to see how it suits your diet. Just be aware that this drink won’t burn fat directly, as it only works to strengthen the metabolism.

Not everyone follows recent food trends that claim to help weight loss. The unusual combination of coffee and lemon doesn’t seem very appealing. However, these ingredients have many proven health benefits that improve brain function, energy levels, and heart muscles.

Consider trying lemon and coffee for a couple of weeks. If you don’t enjoy the combination, drink lemon water or normal coffee to still attain the benefits. The coffee and lemon challenge is not worth doing if you don’t like it. You can always drink plain water to stay hydrated and healthy, or you can stick to plain coffee as well.

What Is Lemon Coffee?

Lemon coffee is a drink that claims to promote weight loss. People add juice into a cup of black coffee and have that regularly as part of their diet.

Drinking coffee and lemon together might seem unusual, but it soon became a trend in losing weight. You can make this concoction at home using only two ingredients – lemon and instant coffee. However, you can’t add other ingredients like syrup, milk, sugar, or sweeteners.

This “fat-burning” drink may not taste delicious since lemon and coffee are bitter products. You can always try this beverage and stop if it doesn’t suit your taste.

Just remember not to drink this alone on a diet, as you need vitamins and nutrients from other foods.

What do coffee and lemon do?

Coffee and lemon juice are supposed to improve your physical and mental health. These specific ingredients might progress your weight loss journey.

Merging these products together is supposed to help you lose weight. A plain cup of coffee has 2 calories that don’t contain fat. This is why many people drink plain coffee when trying to lose a few pounds. You can drink caffeine if you need something else other than water all the time.

Lemons are low in calories and contain a fiber called pectin. This soluble fiber may aid weight loss by slowing down digestion, leaving you full for longer.

People looked at the health benefits of both coffee and lemon and drank them together to potentially lose weight.

Lemon and Coffee Benefits

The lemon and coffee drink has fewer calories that claim to aid your weight loss progress. Consuming fewer calories is great, but how does this beverage benefit your health exactly?

Let’s take a closer look at the two benefits of lemon and coffee:

#1 Lemons are a source of vitamin C

There is 34.4mg of vitamin C in one lemon. This is enough to fuel your body with antioxidants that protect cells from bacteria. People who have too much bacteria in their gut may get headaches, bloating, abdominal pain, constipation, and loss of appetite.

Drinking lemon juice with coffee can help strengthen skin, bones, and blood vessels, leading to a decreased risk of health conditions.

Vitamin C is needed to improve the absorption of iron from foods. Iron helps oxygenate the blood and boost your immune system.

#2 Energy boost

One plain cup of coffee has 95mg of caffeine. You can expect to feel awake after drinking some coffee, but that depends on how much you like to consume every day. Most people drink this beverage in the morning to stay alert, especially before a workout at the gym.

Caffeine blocks the effects of adenosine – a brain chemical that is known for making you sleepy. This prevents you from getting tired 2–3 hours after consumption. The potassium in lemons can also help with brain and nerve function, raising your “feel-good” hormones.

Coffee and Lemon Side Effects

Every “weight loss” product is bound to have side effects that are different for everyone. Viral diet videos don’t often show how lemon and coffee might damage your body.

Here are two side effects that might derive from this drink:

#1 Reflux

Lemon juice might trigger a bad digestive response in some people. This is especially true for those who have gastroesophageal reflux disease and irritable bowel syndrome. Coffee is also a strong ingredient that will send a signal to your gut to release gastrin

To avoid discomfort in your stomach, you should drink more water throughout the day. Water helps flush out your system and prevent foods from irritating the gut lining.

However, if you experience regular heartburn, avoid drinking lemon juice and coffee completely.

#2 Harmful for tooth enamel

Black coffee and lemon juice have acidic qualities that can damage your teeth. Drinking too much of these ingredients can chip away at your tooth enamel. You should either have this drink in moderation or stick with consuming lemon water for weight loss benefits.

How to Make the Lemon and Coffee Drink

You need to pour the juice from one lemon into a standard cup of black coffee. You can opt for half a lemon juice to one cup of coffee as well. Simply mix these ingredients together and drink the beverage once a day or as often as you like.

Even though this drink claims to help with weight loss, you shouldn’t have it more than two times in 24 hours. People with sensitive reflux can react badly to the ingredients. If you enjoy the lemon and coffee drink, have one cup every morning to see if it produces good results.

Consider putting a minimal amount of lemon juice into the coffee to see if that prevents uncomfortable side effects. One teaspoon can still offer you health benefits. Otherwise, a perfectly good cup of water can keep you hydrated and refreshed throughout the day.

A Word From Our Dietitian

The lemon and coffee “weight loss” drink may not work as everyone says.

Even though it offers some health benefits, it won’t help you drop a few pounds. High-intensity exercise and a good diet will boost your metabolism, leading to positive weight loss results in just a few weeks.

Drinking too much lemon juice and coffee may damage your teeth and cause reflux in those with a sensitive gut. You should drink plain water instead or mix lemon with fruit smoothies and protein drinks. It’s always better to stay fully hydrated when burning fat.

You can always speak to a dietitian if you’re unsure about this lemon and coffee weight loss hack. Too much caffeine may lead to heart palpitations, chest pain, and headaches. Always consume these ingredients in moderation to prevent increased blood pressure.

Conclusion

Lemon and coffee might seem like a good combination, but that doesn’t mean it offers weight loss benefits.

These ingredients can actually damage your body in large amounts. Try drinking lemon water or plain coffee once a day to see how that boosts your energy.
